The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum (HDOPF) is pleased to announce that it will be hosting (supported by Horsham District Council and Age UK Horsham) their highly popular annual ‘MP Question Time’ event for local older people* on Friday the 6th of November. This year, Covid 19 restrictions give us the opportunity to hold the meeting through Zoom. Thus people can attend and listen in from the comfort of their own home using a computer, smart phone, tablet or iPad. No travelling necessary!
The Horsham District Older Peoples Forum originally started this meeting of local older people with local MP, Jeremy Quin in 2016. It was so well attended, informative, candid and enjoyable it is now being held annually. With in person meetings severely restricted we didn’t want to miss out on this event, hence using Zoom.
The HDOPF ‘MP Question Time’ event is a genuine opportunity for the local older community from across the Horsham District, to meet a local MP, put questions, raise issues and listen to an MP’s answers and views. ‘Getting it straight from the horse’s mouth’ rather than from the news or social media.
This November 6th the meeting is with the recently elected Andrew Griffith, MP for Arundel & the South Downs. He regularly expresses his forthright concerns in Parliament and in his articles in the WSCT i.e. over the government’s proposals for planning reform and use of an algorithm to calculate the numbers for building new houses to be met by local authorities. See his website www.andrewgriffithmp.com
The meeting is for older people aged 60+ living in the Horsham District or those that care for someone who is, or those that are involved with or simply care about the issues faced by older people. *The event is also open to anyone who is involved with the challenges and issues faced by older people in the Horsham District including neighbourhood, parish, district and county councillors.
The MP Question Time Zoom event is free to attend and will be held 10.30am- 1pm Friday 6th November 2020
For those not used to attending Zoom meetings we are holding a practice Zoom session without Andrew Griffith MP, 2 days before, on Wednesday 4th November 10.30am – 11.30am. Completely informal and friendly.
If you would like to attend either or both sessions, the Forum has to ask that you simply book your place via email to firstname.lastname@example.org as there is a licence limit on numbers (100). You will be sent the joining link and passwords etc prior to the meeting(s).
