About the Village Hall

The Village Hall is a charitable trust, run by a Management Committee, most of whom represent the Village Hall users.  Three “outside” members are elected, and other people can be co-opted. The Chairman is John Bearman,  and the Secretary & Treasurer is John Instance. The Management Committee are the trustees of the charity, and the Parish Council is the custodian trustee. The charity owns the Village Hall building, but the land is owned by Abingworth Developments.   The charity, however, owns the land at Greendene, on which is  Kingdom Hall (a complicated story!).The land and building is leased to the Jehovah’s Witnesses until 2024. Their rent is reviewed every five years, in line with the rate of inflation.

We continue to maintain and renovate the Village Hall as much as possible within its limitations, and we are grateful for grants from the Parish Council for this. However, the building itself has seen better days, but retains its cosy atmosphere. A new hall is due to be built as part of the Community Facilities resulting from the Abingworth Housing development.

Regular Hall users are Pre-school, Toddlers, Gardeners Club, Martial Arts, Thakeham Morris, and the Parish Council. The Bridge Club meets every Friday afternoon, and also on Tuesday evenings. The Hall is available at appropriate times for private hire, though certain restrictions do apply. For more information and to make a booking, contact the Hall Manager, Sarah Skelding via or 07954 995718
