Village Day

Thakeham Primary School, Pre-School and Parish Council proudly present…

Plans and preparation are underway for Thakeham Village Day on 15th September.  Put it in your diary!  Our main fundraising focus is, as usual, children: Thakeham Primary School, Thakeham Pre-School and funds towards the refurbishment of the High Bar Lane children’s playground.

But we are also celebrating the new heart of the village. We are moving back to Abingworth Football fields and the event will go into the evening with live bands, DJ support, food and drink. It will be a family friendly affair with children’s rides and inflatables, dog show and competitions. As the land for the new development once belonged to the Mushroom Factory the day has a mushroom (Fun Guy) theme. Mushrooms are part of our heritage, having been grown in Thakeham since the early 1900s. In the ‘60s Chesswood were the largest mushroom grower in Europe. A smaller, mainly organic, operations Thakeham Mushrooms Ltd still operate here and will be donating some mushrooms for sale.

We hope the event will be bigger and better than in recent years, involving as many of our local community groups as we can.

Quality craft stalls and similar are welcome.  You can download a booking form from this linkVillage Day stall booking form 2018.

Anyone willing to volunteer to help with tent erection, car park stewarding, selling raffle tickets and programmes, BBQ grilling, bar sales, running a coconut shy, making bunting etc should contact Cllr Caroline Instance (01403 741369 /
