This is to update residents regarding the upcoming nights-only closure of The Street. The Street will be closed between 22:00 and 5:00 on the nights of Monday 14 – Thursday 17 August. This is so that BT can install a new fibre optic cable.
We are told that this work will be using existing ducting and will not require further excavations. On each of these nights, the road will only be closed at one point. We are still having difficulty getting confirmation of the exact point of the closure (and whether it will move during this period). The best current indication is that the point of closure will be near the Glebe Field – as shown in this link.
During daylight hours the road will be restored to its full working width for deliveries etc. In relation to likely noise/disturbance we are told that ‘there will be an element of noise, however this should be low impact … they need to lift manhole lids and covers to access the underground network.’
In terms of risk that these works might overrun, the fact that no excavations are planned is positive. The risk is more that if BT encounter a problem they might need to come back, and require another temporary closure, at another time.
If you are a directly-affected resident, thank you for your patience with this and please do pass on this information to any neighbours who may not be aware.
