This website now has an exciting new project, to be run in conjunction with the every day activity. We are now recording an online audio book, with a chapter to be released every Saturday afternoon at 2.00 p.m. We have chosen to read Peter Pan, written by J M Barrie.
James Matthew Barrie was born on the 9th May 1860 and was the 9th of 10 children. His brother David, who was his mother’s favourite child, died tragically on the eve of his 14th birthday. James was 6 at the time. His mother held on to the notion that David would remain a boy forever, and that idea remained with James for decades, and was the inspiration for his most famous play “Peter Pan – the Boy Who Never Grew Up”. His play was performed in Great Ormond Street Hospital, with James being there to see the children’s delight. James was a generous benefactor of Great Ormond Street Hospital and in 1929 gifted the royalties of his book to them. Our project is to help raise funds for GOSH, we have a Just Giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/peterpanaudio – No donation is too small (or too large, of course).
We have 2 professional actors who will narrate alternate chapters, and also play the part of Mr and Mrs Darling. Other professional actors will read the voices of all the other characters. We hope you will join us on this exciting adventure – every Saturday at 2.00 p.m. Listen out for a talking dog, fairy language, and so much more.
