“Hello, my name is Victoria Menzies and I’m the owner of Thakeham Garden Company. Thakeham has been my home since the year 2000, I’ve grown up here and so it made complete sense to include the village in my business name. I have always had a vested interest in our local community and have previously been involved with the steering groups for the Neighbourhood Plan among other things.
My favourite thing about gardening is being actively engaged with the seasons, you see every change from the first daffodil in spring to the last leaves falling in autumn. I’m a very methodical gardener and I really enjoy researching each individual plants needs so that I can provide it with the best possible care, as every plant is different.
I have been inspired throughout my childhood by my grandparents who are my gardening heroes, they have a beautiful cottage style garden full of colour and they have always shared their passion for gardening with me. Since getting the “gardening bug” I have loved being able to share my knowledge with family and friends, working with them to improve the plants in their garden.
At the start of 2019 I was lucky enough to take on an allotment in neighbouring Storrington, with careful planning it has been incredibly productive and in August I decided to take on a second plot. I grow a wide range of fruit and vegetables and next year plan to grow lots of cut flowers to use for floral arrangements (and to share with my clients).
I decided to set up Thakeham Garden Co. following the completion of the RHS level 2 Qualifications and a long-overdue career change into the horticultural industry.”

Sustainability and environmentally friendly practices are one of our core objectives and we believe that garden practices shouldn’t have a negative impact on wildlife. Therefore we do not use any herbicides, pesticides or insecticides and operate without the unnecessary use of chemicals. We avoid using single-use plastics at all costs and will always opt for a greener alternative.
Plant health is also very important and therefore we follow practices such as cleaning tools, equipment and footwear in between jobs to reduce the chance of plant diseases and pests spreading between sites.
As a business, we are fully insured with public liability insurance up to £1 million.
