Housing proposal south of Furze Common Road – meeting on 8 March

As many residents will already be aware, a proposal has been submitted to HDC planners (DC/22/0080) to build 30 new houses in a field to the south of Furze Common Road. Thakeham Parish Council’s response to this scheme will be agreed at a public meeting now scheduled for Tuesday 8 March, at 18.45pm in the Main Hall at Thakeham Village Hall.

Public attendance is welcome, on first-come-first-served basis – no need to book a seat in advance. Attendees can input to the discussion, subject to the rules for planning meetings.

Under planning guidance to Parish Councils, consideration of this proposal will be confined to this meeting and shouldn’t be discussed in advance (hence turning off comments on this post). That said, the Parish Council’s responses to drafts of the Horsham District Local Plan over the last two years have clearly signalled concerns regarding the sustainability and capacity of central Thakeham to absorb further new housing in addition to the 208-unit Abingworth development. The PC’s responses to the Local Plan also expressed general views on the suitability of the site in question (see our 2020 response to HDC, page 7, site SA513).

The PC anticipates good attendance and a lively discussion at this meeting.
