HDC Thakeham area health walks

All are welcome to guided, free, sociable, HDC walks led by trained volunteers; no need to book, just turn-up at the start point. A booklet containing the walks is available from the Walks Co-ordinator on 07720 714306 or online at www.horsham.gov.uk/leisurepages/Leisure/sports/walking

Wed 17 April 10:30am Storrington Riverside Walk 2.5 miles 90 mins Walk 1507. Meet at Storrington Recreation Ground Car Park, RH20 4PG. Come and explore Storrington’s lovely Riverside Walk. This flat, well surfaced walk is ideal for people who want an easy walk with pleasant views. Suitable for children’s buggies. Dogs welcome, no stiles or hills. Refreshments provided. Sun 21 April 10:00am Kings Building and Houghton Forest 4.3 miles 1 hr 45 mins Walk 3147. Meet at the car park just off Whiteways roundabout BN18 9FD at the junction of A29 and A284. This leisurely downland walk incorporates parts of the Southdowns and Monarchs Ways as well as enjoying walking through Houghton Forest. Dogs welcome. Refreshments provided. Mick 01903 745971

Tue 23 April 10:30am Stunning Sussex Bluebell Walk 3 or 5 miles 2 hrs Walk 2157. Park and meet at St George’s Church, Steyning Road, West Grinstead, RH13 8LR (TQ171208). From Horsham (A24), take the B2135 signposted Partridge Green, first right at wooden bungalow. We all start together and then we have a choice of a shorter or longer route. A flat circular walk with far reaching views of the South Downs, interesting buildings and houses along the way. Can be muddy. No dogs, possibility of cattle, horses & sheep. Toilet, honesty box. Sat 27 April 2:00pm Chanctonbury & Wiston 6.5 miles 2 hrs 30 mins Walk 3001. Meet in Washington South Downs Way car park (TQ120119). This route takes us along the South Downs way to Chanctonbury Ring and from there we continue in the direction of Steyning before dropping down to the foot of the Downs through a lovely piece of woodland. When at the foot of the Downs we wend our way back towards Washington observing Wiston House in the distance as we go. The route contains stiles, steep hills and can be muddy. Dogs welcome. Sat 4 May 2:00pm Thakeham Circular 3 miles 1.5 hrs Walk 2040. Meet in Thakeham Church car park, RH20 3EP. This popular short walk explores the tracks, footpaths and byways north of Thakeham Village. Tue 7 & 21 May 11:00am Health Centre, Steyning 2 miles 75 mins Walk 1502. Meet at Steyning Health Centre, Tanyard Lane, BN44 3RJ (TQ176113).  Various routes, some inclines, one stile, takes in parts of Steyning and the outskirts. Sat 11 May 9:00am Wiston/Steyning Downland Dog Walk 2 miles 75 mins Walk 2163. Meet at Steyning Cricket Pavilion, BN44 3LE. Please park in one of the Steyning car parks as there is limited parking at cricket pavilion. A walk for dog owners into accessible areas of the Steyning Downland Scheme and includes a hill. Supported by HDC & Steyning Downland Scheme. Maximum of two dogs per handler, you are responsible for actions of your dog. Ann 01903 297553

Sun 19 May 10:00am Warminghurst Church 4.7 miles 1 hr 45 mins Walk 3024. Meet at Georges Lane NT car park, Storrington, RH20 3JH. This route explores ancient tracks and byways to Warmingshurst. We will have time to explore the redundant church at Warmingshurst, a 13th-century sandstone church with splendid views across to Chanctonbury Ring. The route is quite easy walking. Dogs welcome. Wed 29 May 10:30am Park and Hop from Hop Oast 2 miles 60 mins Walk 1548. Meet at the Hop Oast Park and Ride, Horsham Worthing Road, RH13 0AR. Horsham buses 23 and 98 take you to the Park and Ride. We walk through the golf course and take a gentle stroll through one of several routes in Denne Park/Chesworth into Horsham in time for coffee.
