HDC Thakeham area health walks

All are welcome to join guided, free, sociable, HDC walks led by trained volunteers; no need to book, just turn up at the start point. Programme booklet containing over 250 walks is available – contact the Walks Co-ordinator on 07720 714306  or look online at www.horshamhealthwalks.co.uk.   Beginners are recommended to contact Walk Leaders to discuss suitability. All walks can be wet and muddy in places. Forthcoming walks in Thakeham Parish and neighbouring areas are as follows:-

Sat 3 November 2:00pm: Sullington Warren and Church, A 4 mile circular walk (two stiles) through the National Trust’s Sullington Warren with its heathland, pine woodland and ancient burial grounds then on to Sullington Manor Farm and the ancient country church. Sun 11 November 10.00am: NEW WALK 100 Years on Walk. Meet at Storrington Rec. Ground C.P Car Park RH20 4BG. Today marks 100 years since the official end of WW1. This 7½ mile walk, taking 3 hours, will take us from Storrington to Washington along the foot of the downs before returning through Warren Hill and Sandgate Park. On route we will pause briefly at Storrington, Sullington and Washinton churches to visit the War Memorials and reflect on the sacrifice that previous generations made.  Sat 17 November 2:00pm: Parham Glider Field. A 3.6 mile flat circular walk, two stiles, through quiet lanes to Cootham via Glebe Meadow and Kithurst Park then back across Parham Glider Field.  Sun 18 November 10:00am: Hareswith, A 3.9 mile circular walk, some stiles, through the unspoilt fields of Fryern Park to Perrett’s Farm with its stunning views of the South Downs and West Chiltington, on to Hareswith and East Wantley then back along the ancient track of Love Lane.  Wed 21 November 10:30am: Storrington Riverside Walk A 2½ mile walk taking 1½ hours. Meet at Storrington Recreation Ground Car Park, RH20 4PG. This flat, well surfaced walk is ideal for people who want an easy walk with pleasant views. Suitable for children’s buggies. Dogs welcome, no stiles or hills. Refreshments provided.
