Today’s update on this situation is that Southern Gas are running a day behind their original plan to repair the gas mains pipe that Clancy Docwra damaged in the course of water mains connection works last week. Southern Gas now expect to complete their work tomorrow (Thursday 1 June). Clancy Docwra are on standby to refill the trench and repair the road surface, which they expect to have done by the afternoon of Friday 2nd.
Meanwhile, Highways have also issued notice of cancellation of a separate closure that they had planned for Peacocks Lane for Friday 2nd (for tree works related to overhead electric cables). I hesitate to give any credit for joined-up thinking…
Our sympathies again to all residents and other users of The Street. Having formally complained to Highways about poor planning and failure to follow their own advance-notice procedure relating to this road closure, we have now received an apology and assurance of no repetition, but that doesn’t help anyone in the short term.
If any further information emerges I will pass it on.
