Thakeham Gardeners Club

This very friendly club was founded nearly 42  years ago, so celebrated its Ruby Anniversary in 2015.

It currently has a membership of 64,  and its members come from Thakeham and the neighbouring villages of Storrington,  West Chiltington, Washington,  Findon Village,  Pulborough and High Salvington.   We all garden on different soil, which presents different problems, so tips and ideas are shared amongst us.   Some of us are new to gardening and some are seasoned gardeners.

We have a variety of very interesting speakers each month – see this year’s programme of events, below.  Our guest speakers bring slides, and some have plants for us to buy at a very low cost.

The end of year is celebrated with a Christmas Party in December.  This includes wine, a 2 course meal and after dinner entertainment – all for a very modest charge.

The Club holds 2 Plant Sales each year – in May and October.  These Sales are well known throughout the neighbouring villages, and we have a very large stock of plants for sale, plus a tombola  and a cake stall.     Entrance fee includes a cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit.  There is usually a long queue outside the Hall before opening time, and the plants sell in a short and very busy time.

We also have an after Christmas  luncheon in January at a local venue – in 2016 this was at the Tollgate in Bramber – coach provided so that we can enjoy a glass of wine with our lunch.

We have 2 outings each year, and in 2016 we went to Saville Gardens, and after the visit round the gardens had an enjoyable lunch.   After lunch we had  a boat trip up the Thames, with a cream tea on board on the return journey.

We meet at Thakeham Village Hall on the second Monday of each month, except January, at 7.30 p.m.  See this year’s programme of events, below.

Visitors and new members always welcome.

For more details please telephone our Chairman – Mr Bruce Wallace on 01903 892466 or our Membership Secretary – Linda Turk on 01403 741068
