The Abingworth development includes planning approval for 20 keyworker houses on the west side of the Storrington Road, at the north of the site. This post is to give readers a heads-up that work will start on site with clearance of some vegetation alongside the B2139, from Tuesday 6 September, and an update on other aspects of this part of the development.
The area of vegetation affected is indicated here. The specific set of trees/undergrowth being removed was approved by planners in 2013 and has recently been re-confirmed by the HDC Arboriculture team. It involves loss of a tranche of self-sown mid-height trees and bushes, but will retain several mature oaks at the edge of the B2139, and a continuous belt of screening as the road bends south-west. We are liaising with Oakford Homes regarding replanting of hedging/ screening between the B2139 and the rear fences of the new houses.
Oakford Homes (the main site contractors) now directly own this sub-development site and intend to deliver the houses as soon as possible. They have recently entered into an agreement with Hyde Housing Association to manage the affordable units. Hyde are in discussions with HDC planners about varying the eligibility criteria/priority arrangements for the shared ownership housing – in the direction of placing local residents/family members more on an equal footing to workers at the Monaghan’s operation.
Some of these units will be allocated under a shared-ownership scheme, while others will be available under an affordable rent scheme.
To get further information about the shared-ownership scheme, please contact Hyde New Homes’ sales team on 0345 606 1221 or visit www.hydenewhomes.co.uk.
Applications for the affordable rental scheme will be routed via Horsham District Council – to check your eligibility for this, visit HDC’s housing register application website.
