HDC Thakeham area health walks

All are welcome to join guided, free, sociable, HDC walks led by trained volunteers; no need to book, just turn up at the start point. Programme booklet containing over 250 walks is available – contact the Walks Co-ordinator on 07720 714306  or look online at www.horshamhealthwalks.co.uk.   Beginners are recommended to contact Walk Leaders to discuss suitability. (1507) Wed 17 May 10:30am: Storrington Riverside Walk A 2½ mile walk taking 1½ hours. Meet at Storrington Recreation Ground Car Park, RH20 4PG. This flat, well surfaced walk is ideal for people who want an easy walk with pleasant views. Suitable for children’s buggies. Dogs welcome, no stiles or hills. Refreshments provided.  (3144) Sun 21 May 10:00am: River, Heath, and Pleasure Garden. Meet at Glebe Surgery car park, Monastery Lane, Storrington, RH20 4LR.  This 4 mile walk, taking 2 hours will  explore Storrington’s lovely Riverside Walk which runs through the centre of the village and the National Trust’s Sullington Warren before returning via Fryern Park with its disused pleasure grounds. (2082) Thu 25 May 10:00am: West Chiltington (1) Various 4/5 mile circular walks, some stiles and moderate slopes, incorporating windmills, vineyards, llamas and good views of the South Downs.  (2039) Sat 27 May 2:00pm: Parham Glider Field. A 3.6 mile flat circular walk, two stiles, through quiet lanes to Cootham via Glebe Meadow and Kithurst Park then back across Parham Glider Field. (2049) Sat 17 June 2:00pm: Sullington Church, A 3¼ mile mostly flat (four stiles) circular walk across farmland to the waterfall at Chantry and on to Sullington Church nestling at the foot of the Downs on a working farm with its adjacent Manor House. (2200) Sat 15 July 10:00am: Annual Riverside Walk 2017  A 13 mile circular route, taking 4½ hours, which virtually encompasses the town of Horsham using paths along various watercourses and passing through woodland, pastures and farmland. There will be a photographic competition and a Children’s Treasure Hunt. This year we will have a special visitor, Paddington Bear!!

Meet at the Horsham Rugby Club in Hammerpond Road (RH13 6PJ). Clear directional signage and stewards will ensure the correct route is followed. Refreshment and toilets are at Horsham Rugby Club, Chesworth Farm, Warnham Local Nature Reserve and New House Farm. If you decide not to walk the whole route you can take the free minibus back to the start from designated pick up points on the route.
